Reading Council
The reading council at our school serves several important purposes. Primarily, it aims to promote a love of reading by creating a supportive community focused on a wide range of literature. Reading Ambassadors meet regularly to organise activities such as reading parties, author visits, local library trips and reading challenges, which encourages engagement and fosters a positive reading culture. Additionally, the reading council provides ambassadors with a platform to voice their opinions about the direction of reading in our school and how to make improvements, enhancing their critical thinking and communication skills. Following their own training, the reading ambassadors also collaborate with teachers and their peers to improve the school’s reading resources and text selection, ensuring that all children have access to diverse and engaging reading materials. Overall, the reading council nurtures a lifelong appreciation for reading, helping children to develop both academically and socially.
