NCETM

NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics)

Since 2014, The NCETM and Maths Hubs have been working together to develop approaches to teaching for mastery within primary mathematics. At Alexandra Park Primary School we have been part of the Maths Hub work, with North West One Maths Hub since the start of the project. We have one NCETM Mastery Specialist Teachers and two NCETM Professional Development Leads.

Our school has a strong and established alliance with the NCETM. Both Mr Brooke (headteacher) and Mrs Williams (Director of the Research School and Deputy Headteacher) worked as NCETM mastery leads before whilst teachers and still support schools with the strategic implementation of developing mathematics. Mr Williams, our maths lead, has now joined the team as our latest mastery lead.

We lead on a range of workgroups across Stockport and Greater Manchester, supporting schools in developing their approaches to teaching mathematics. We run the Mastery Readiness TRG (Teacher Research Group), the Developing Mastery TRG, Embedding Mastery TRG and the Lesson Design Workgroup. Information and sign-up details can be found on the North West One Maths Hub website here http://www.nw1mathshub.co.uk/.

The Teaching for Mastery Work Groups are a year-long school and professional development opportunity. They are led by Phil Brooke (Head Teacher) and Mike Williams (Maths Lead) who are both trained Mastery Specialists. Hayley Wood (SLE (Specialist Leader of Education) for Mathematics. Professional Development Lead) and Claire Williams (SLE, Mastery Specialist) also provide training and support for schools through their work across Stockport and Greater Manchester. Teachers taking part in the programmes develop the skills and knowledge to deliver teaching for mastery in their classrooms and their schools.

We have developed our approach to teaching mathematics over many years here at Alexandra Park, you can find out more about here https://www.alexandrapark-pri.stockport.sch.uk/our-curriculum/subject-information/mathematics-a-mastery-approach/

We are very proud of standards in the teaching and learning of mathematics at our school. If you would like to discuss our approach or our work through the Maths Hub, please email mike.williams@alexandraparkprimary.uk or headteacher@alexandraparkprimary.uk.
